Alex has been involved in a collision today with a car as he was crossing the road. I have just returned from the hospital where he has been admitted.

He has a broken left tib & fib and his left collarbone is broken. He should have the leg pinned tomorrow according to the Doctor. They are also a little concerned about blood in his urine and some bruising around his kidney and they will look into that problem in the morning.

By strange coincidence I arrived at the scene just as the ambulance did, seeing several stopped vehicles I put on my responder hi-viz and went over to offer my assistance, I introduced myself, looked down at the casualty and saw that it was Alex. Still we got a nice ride in the back of the ambulance with a Police escort.

Absolutely fantastic service from the two sets of ambulance crew, the Police and the A&E staff, too many people knock the NHS but they were all brilliant.

So it looks like we will be short of a flag marshal for a while.

Update from the hospital. Alex is going for surgery this afternoon at about 1330hrs. He is having his leg pinned and plated and his collarbone will also be plated. He has his own bedside phone number 0700 6400 156 ext 2277 if anyone wants to call him and cheer him up. Obviously he won't be up for calls for a lot of this afternoon as the op is likely to last a couple of hours.

Awww, bless him. I'll give him a call tomorrow once it's all over. I'm sure he'll be too busy chatting up the nurses before his op today

Alex went to theatre at 1.50pm for a 2-3hr operation and he still isn't out yet! Will keep you posted x

Update: Alex returned to the ward around 2000hrs tonight, after a wapping 6 hrs from when I went with him to theatre. Apparently he was reluctant to wake up at first, typical teenager.

Now he is back he is in pain from his leg and somewhat groggy from the long sleep. I will have more details tomorrow when we talk to the consultant.
